Product Info

An extremely quick, convenient and effective way of changing woodturning tool blades. A quick twist of the wrist and the tool can be removed and replaced in seconds, no fiddly grub screws or “bits” which can be lost in the shavings. The other advantage of these units is that you are able to make the handles yourself out of most any wood, to your preferred shape and size and length. Then just replace blades in the future!.

These units are designed by Jimmy Clewes and made by Doug Thompson from high grade aluminum and are anodized in different colors for instant recognition of sizes.

This 1/2″ size accepts most all 1/2″ round shank tools.

I like this insert, but you have to turn it one way to tighten for a push cut, or the other way for a pull cut, or it will loosen while you turn!

best 1/2 handle adapter out there
Big, chunky, and STRONG and flawlessly machined and finished. None of the competing adapters are as strong or beautifully made. I wanted mine to fit a tapered rectangular tang on axis, a problem with this design. The grub screws are short, meant to hold a round tang that fills the hole. Just shoving my tang in there and tightening the screws, the tang was tipped off-axis and the rear screw was way over-extended. So I drilled and tapped an opposing screw hole at the back and replaced all the screws with 1/2 long. Now the tang is floated right where I want and thread engagement looks great. A straight rectangular (or square) tang wouldn't need the extra screw but still wants the 1/2 ones. The threadform for the screws and tap is 5/16 x 24 TPI (SAE 5/16 Fine).

I've installed these JC quick release units in several custom handles for different applications. Absolutely love them. Great product that has held up really well for 4+ year of use. Looking to get another 1/2 for a second size handle.
